  • Where does the tutoring take place?
    Lessons usually take place in the student's home. However they can take place in a public place, such as a library. They also can take place online, via Skype and an interactive whiteboard.
  • How long does each session last?
    Sessions are usually 1 hour long. However, I can occasionally offer 30 minute sessions (online only).
  • Can you teach more than one subject per session?
    To get the most out of each session, it is better to focus on just one subject.
  • Do you teach children who have been excluded or can't manage to go to school?
    Yes, I support many students who are not in school for various reasons.
  • Do you tutor during the holidays?
    Yes, I can offer holiday tutoring as well as term time daytime tutoring.
  • Do you have a DBS check?
    Yes, I have an enhanced DBS check, which is on the annual update service.
  • Do you tutor home education children?
    Yes, I am more than happy to help tutor home educated children.
  • Why is tutoring a good idea?
    There are many reasons why tutoring can be beneficial for your child. They may need extra support in a subject that they are falling behind in, or it could be that they need to increase their confidence in specific areas. As a specialist teacher, I am able to tailor the learning specifically to the student and their needs.
  • Do you provide feedback?
    Yes, feedback is provided half-termly to the parent/student on how things are going.
  • What equipment does my child need?
    For children in primary school, they do not need to provide anything, I will have everything they need to complete their lessons. For children in secondary school, they will need: a pad of 5mm squared paper, a 30cm ruler an HB pencil, a blue or black pen, a protractor and scientific calculator.
  • Do I need a computer for online tutoring?
    Yes, you will need a computer, or tablet and internet access to complete online tutoring.
  • Where does the assessment take place?
    The assessment takes place in the student’s home where they are most comfortable. Alternatively, I am fully insured so it can take place in the student’s school if that can be arranged. **Please note, a travel charge may apply.**
  • What does it cost to have an assessment?
    The full diagnostic assessment is from £475. This covers the pre-assessment communication, the assessment itself, the full report and the follow-up questions.
  • How long does it take for a full assessment?
    The assessments can take an average of 2-3 hours to complete, this is due to the quantity of assessments needed. I will offer the students rest and comfort breaks during this time. If I decide that the student is tiring, then we will break and complete the remaining tests at another date.
  • Do I have to have the forms completed before the assessment?
    Yes, to gather all the background information and the difficulties that the students are experiencing that led to the assessment being booked, I need to have all forms no later than 2 weeks before the assessment. Failure to return the forms in good time could lead to the assessment being cancelled and rebooked.
  • Why diagnose?
    A diagnosis of dyslexia can often help the student understand why they are having certain difficulties and help them to realise their strengths and weaknesses. It can also help give them strategies to enhance their learning. A diagnosis of dyslexia is life-long; therefore, the report can be referred to at any time in the future.
